Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) is a public, federal-owned university that is located in Lafia, which serves as the capital state to Nassarawa State.
The Federal University of Lafia, formerly known as the Federal University, Lafia, was established by the federal government in 2011 under the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. The establishment of the university is in response to improving access to education for all Nigerians and to promote socio-economic transformation.
Federal University of Lafia was established alongside 10 other federal universities that were established at that time. At the time of its establishment, the university commenced activities at the state secretariat that was donated by the state government of Lafia; this served as its temporary site until 2015.
In 2015 the university moved to its permanent site, which is located on Lafia Makurdi Road upon 206 hectares of land, which at the same time was provided by the state government of Nassarawa State. When the university moved to its permanent site in 2015, not all of them—some faculties still existed and operated in the temporary one.
In June 2019 the university name was changed from Federal University, Lafia, to Federal University of Lafia.
The Federal University of Lafia is envisioned to be a renowned institution of learning, research, and innovation for the positive socio-economic transformation of the nation.
