The establishment of Micheal Okpara University was in proportion with the other universities of agriculture that were established in other parts of Nigeria at that time. The university came into existence on the 13th of November, 1992, when a decree was made that made the establishment of the university possible.

When the university was established in 1992, academic activities commenced in 1993 with a number of just eighty-two (82) students, but the institution has over 38,000 students studying different programs based on the 2025/2026 academic session report.

Admission Requirements

● Candidates must be at least 16 years old before applying for admission.

● Applicants must participate in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organized by JAMB.

● Candidates must obtain an acceptable JAMB score for their chosen program.

● Applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) credit passes in SSCE/WAEC/NECO/GCE O’Level results in not more than two sittings.

● The required O’Level subjects must include English language and mathematics.

● For B. Agriculture programs, candidates must have five credit passes, including Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Physics, and English Language.

● Candidates applying for agriculture-related programs must have attempted physics and mathematics at WAEC/SSCE/GCE O’Level.

● Direct entry applicants can apply with any of the following qualifications:
