The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the AKY Health Fellows Programme. This is an opportunity for the State’s residents to work as ad-hoc staff during a large-scale enrolment campaign across Kano State.
The programme supports the state’s effort to register vulnerable residents into the health insurance scheme (KSCHMA). Selected fellows will assist with community registration and awareness activities across 484 wards in the state. The fellowship will also supports the awareness of healthcare services funded through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF).
Submission of applications commences from Friday 6th March, 2026, interested candidates who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply.

About the KSCHMA AKY Health Fellows Programme
The AKY Health Fellows Programme is designed to support the expansion of health insurance coverage across Kano communities. By recruiting trained ad-hoc staff within each Local Government Area (LGA), KSCHMA aims to make it easier and accessible for vulnerable residents to enroll and benefit from healthcare services.
The programme focuses on community-level engagement. Fellows will work directly with residents, traditional leaders, religious leaders and local stakeholders to ensure that eligible individuals are registered in the scheme.
This approach allows the agency to reach more households, improve awareness of available healthcare services, and strengthen participation in the state health insurance system.
Responsibilities of AKY Health Fellows
Successful applicants will support enrolment and awareness activities in their assigned communities. Fellows are expected to interact with residents and local leaders to promote participation in the healthcare programme.
Key responsibilities include:
- Registering new enrollees into the state health insurance scheme.
- Sensitising community members on BHCPF healthcare programmes.
- Creating awareness campaigns on the available KSCHMA package and benefits.
- Engaging community leaders and other stakeholders to encourage participation in the health insurance scheme.
- Engaging members of Ward Development Committees (WDCs) during community outreach activities.
These responsibilities are important in improving awareness and increasing the number of vulnerable residents enrolled in the programme.
Eligibility Requirements
The AKY Health Fellows Programme is inviting all Kano State residents who are ready to support healthcare awareness within their communities. To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a resident of Kano State
- Reside in the Local Government Area (LGA) where they intend to serve.
- Communicate effectively with community members and traditional leaders.
- Candidates with good understanding of their local communities and can also communicate clearly with residents may have an added advantage during the selection process.
